Auxiliary Officer Program

Auxiliary Officer Program

The Auxiliary Officer program is the entry level into serving the community as a volunteer in law enforcement. We all start as Auxiliary Officers.

The Auxiliary Officer Program produces the majority of FCSP’s volunteer force.  After receiving training, posse members can be summoned by the Flathead County Sheriff to assist in the community, providing a law enforcement presence at events, administering aid to the public in times of natural disasters and wildfires, reinforcing full-time enforcement and detention with inmate security, and numerous other tasks.

Posse members are frequently observed in the community at major events, including but not limited to the Northwest Montana Fair, Under the Big Sky, Great Fish Challenge, Great Bear Festival, and many other events, festivals, concerts, and community activities.

Members receive quality training from certified law enforcement instructors in a variety of categories to help them face the many challenges they may encounter in the field.  Such training includes emergency medical response, drug awareness, emergency vehicle operations, firearms, crowd control, less-lethal defense, ethics, wildland fire awareness, crisis intervention, and more.  Every member is equipped in both knowledge and gear to execute their duties safely and competently.

There are a variety of positions available to posse members.  If you have equine resources, you may be eligible to join the FCSP Mounted Unit.  Contact Ron Eckert for more information reckert@sheriffsposse.org.  If you are interested in furthering a career in law enforcement, you may consider joining the Reserve Deputy force, which you can learn more about here (insert redirect hyperlink).
