The Mounted Consists of both Auxiliary Officers and Reserve Deputies. Members who possess equine resources are welcome to apply to join this team. Many events the Posse services benefit from the presence of mounted officers. Oftentimes, the community can see this presence at the Northwest Montana Fairgrounds, Rebecca Farms, and Under the Big Sky. Members are expected to maintain the same requirements as regular auxiliary and reserve officers in their commitments and training qualifications.
Members interested in participating in the Mounted Unit will need to be approved by the Mounted Unit Commander Ron Eckert. Equine resources will be subject to inspection for quality control and duty standards. Additional, specialized training may be required of applicants.
To join the Mounted Unit, applicants must first apply and be accepted into the Flathead County Sheriff’s Posse as an Auxiliary Officer or Reserve Deputy, which can be done here. After completing this process, applicants may inquire about participation by contacting Ron Eckert at reckert@sheriffsposse.org.
The Flathead County Sheriff’s Posse is entirely a volunteer organization filled with numerous men and women dedicated to serving their community without compensation.
