Auxiliary Officers and Reserve Deputies service major events around Flathead County like the Northwest Montana Fair, Under the Big Sky, High School Graduations & Events, charity events, etc.
A uniformed law enforcement presence at an event may be available upon approval by the Sheriff’s Office, through the command staff at the Posse. However, there are limitations to the types of requests we can consider. At short notice, if an emergency occurs, our limited resources may be deployed elsewhere by the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office does not charge for a law enforcement presence at community events, but we can recommend a suggested donation if you would like to support the Posse, which allows us to continue our community presence. The Posse is entirely community funded.
Your donation will help fund Reserve Deputies and Auxiliary Officers in Flathead County that provided over 10,000 hours of service, unpaid, in 2023. The County does not provide funding for law enforcement volunteers. As a non-profit, we provide law enforcement uniforms, equipment and training for Reserve Deputies and Auxiliary Officers. We fund Montana’s only Explorer Program for youth interested in law enforcement. Our training facility in Evergreen is used free of charge by all law enforcement agencies in Montana, as well as for local community events. Your donation directly supports the professionals in law enforcement who are volunteers under the command of sheriff Heino.
